A girl group’s controversial new music video was removed earlier this month after its content clashed with outspoken political figures and religious authorities.

DOLLA is a Malaysian girl group formed in 2019 by Universal Music Malaysia. The music video for their new song, “Question,” was released on November 6 and removed less than a week later due to the group’s “tight-sticky dresses”. Some critics reportedly deemed them “suggestive,” triggering a wave of backlash.

The “Question” MV was deleted and forwarded to Islamic authorities for review. In response, Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar praised Universal Music Malaysia for taking the video down from all its official platforms. He said, “May this step inspire the entire entertainment industry to continue creating with greater refinement, a deeper sense of responsibility, and love for the community.”

However, on November 20, DOLLA rereleased the “Question” MV under the title “DOLLA – QUESTION (Official Music Video) [International Version]”. The video, which appears to be unchanged from the original, is not available in Malaysia, but it can be viewed abroad.

Fans who have access to the video are expressing their support for DOLLA from around the world. Some have also shared workarounds for viewers who can’t see the video.
