Jeon Do-yeon strikes a deal with Kim Go-eun for The Price of Confession

In the wake of a gruesome murder, the laser focus of the subsequent investigation forces the wrongly-accused suspect to fork out The Price of Confession in order to avoid prison time. Netflix’s latest crime-thriller is suspenseful, psychological, and certainly not for the faint of heart.
The latest teaser opens with a news broadcast detailing the circumstances of the crime our heroine has been charged with. After discovering her husband dead in her studio, the art teacher Ahn Yoon-soo – played by Jeon Do-yeon (Crash Course in Romance) – has been sentenced to life in prison. As the prosecutor Baek Dong-hoon, a smug Park Hae-soo (Karma) is convinced of Yoon-soo’s guilt, even as she questions his certainty.
Elsewhere, Kim Go-eun (You and Everything Else) echoes that sentiment of distrust. “Some people don’t believe me,” Mo Eun admits, dressed in prison garb. Across the table, her attorney Jin Young-in – played by Choi Young-joon (As You Stood By) – observes her placid demeanor, but offers no reply.
Winding up as Yoon-soo’s neighbor in prison, Eun murmurs a sweet offer through their adjoining wall – she’ll confess to the murder of Yoon-soo’s husband in her place. As a self-proclaimed witch and psychopath who curled up on the couch next to her murder victim, gazing at the corpse with a cold-blooded apathy, the calculative Eun wants just one thing in return. There’s someone she didn’t manage to kill – Yoon-soo must do it in her stead.
Offering both the salvation of an angel and the temptation of a devil, Eun knows just how to coax Yoon-soo into doing her bidding. Inevitably, Yoon-soo succumbs. As the paramedics wheel a body out on a stretcher, Yoon-soo – fresh out of incarceration – bites her nails anxiously. And I can’t help but wonder what meaning lies in the tattoo that loops around her left ring finger.
Meanwhile, Dong-hoon is still determined to prove Yoon-soo’s guilt. On the contrary, Yoon-soo’s empathetic attorney Jang Jung-gu – played by Jin Seon-gyu (Typhoon Family) – continues to stand on her side. As Eun swings wildly between violent outbursts of rage and haunting stretches of eerie calmness, Yoon-soo spirals into a survival-fuelled desperation. Will she manage to repay Eun’s favor, or will the cost end up being too much for either woman to bear?
Helmed by PD Lee Jung-hyo (Doona, Crash Landing on You) with scriptwriting by filmmaker Kwon Jong-kwan (Proof of Innocence), The Price of Confession is slated for a December 5 release.
