The Perfect Neighbor Trailer

“She’s always messing with people’s kids.” Netflix has revealed an official trailer for acclaimed documentary film The Perfect Neighbor, made by award-winning director Geeta Gandbhir. This first premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and was regarded as one of the best films from the festival – it ended up in my Top 10 Best of the Fest list. Using bodycam footage from dozens of police visits, The Perfect Neighbor bears witness to a tight-knit community navigating one neighbor’s relentless harassment. But her hostility takes a sinister turn when it escalates into a fatal crime. It’s an infuriating, unsettling, sad true story. One woman. Dozens of 911 calls. And a close-knit neighborhood caught in a nightmare by a “Karen”. What begins as one woman’s harassment of children spirals into a shocking act of violence – murder. This story is told entirely through gripping police bodycam footage. The Perfect Neighbor – also winner of Sundance Film Festival’s Directing Award – delivers a hauntingly powerful experience that keeps you on edge from start to finish. The doc is meant to be commentary on Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, but it is really more of a look at the latent racism found in all corners of America, and how that dangerous racism often turns into violence…

A seemingly minor neighborhood dispute in Florida escalates into deadly violence. Police bodycam footage and investigative interviews expose the consequences of Florida’s “stand your ground” laws. In a normal American neighborhood with families living their lives and kids playing with each other, one woman was quick to see any conflict as an attack that always required police attention. The annoying behaviors of a local “Karen” are slowly revealed to be something darker and more appalling. Director Geeta Gandbhir tells this uniquely American story through the artful presentation of real-life found footage that allows the circumstances to speak for themselves with terrifying clarity. The Perfect Neighbor is directed by award-winning doc filmmaker Geeta Gandbhir, also director of the films Puppies Behind Bars, A Journey of a Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers, I Am Evidence, Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power previously. Produced by Alisa Payne, Nikon Kwantu, Sam Bisbee, Geeta Gandbhir. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Netflix opens The Perfect Neighbor in select US theaters starting October 10th, 2025, then streaming on Netflix starting on October 17th this fall. Who’s ready to watch?
